Property Care Apprentice of the Year Named

Celebrating its long standing commitment to apprenticeships, Dodd Group has named 21 year old William Briscoe from Sutton Coldfield Apprentice of the Year for its entire Property Care division.

Following a hotly contested competition in which managers from Dodd Group's UK wide business had to nominate their best apprentices and adult trainees, Will's positive attitude and commitment to carrying out all tasks to the best of his ability made him a stand out candidate.

Will has always maintained a very positive attitude towards work, normally with a big smile on his face! He has completed his apprenticeship some 6 months ahead of his scheduled completion date of September 2016. This was down to hard work and effort in both technical and written based assessments. William's timekeeping and attendance both at work and college are excellent and feedback from his tutors and work based colleagues are also of a very high standard.

Operations Director, Alan Wakeman, highlighted Will's performance stating "I have always been astounded by Williams's progress throughout his apprenticeship and I would even go as far as to say that I've not seen such a fast learning, pro-active individual in my trade for many years. We are proud to have him working in our team, and he is a real asset to Dodd Group." He added "William is always smart in his appearance, polite and well-mannered and puts the customer first every time. When it comes to working with others, William is always helpful and he ensures that the work that he carries out is completed to the highest standard possible. Through his hard work and great personality he has become a very important member of the SMBC partnership team, and all of the engineers enjoy working with him."

The competition was judged by a panel which included John Kavanagh, Dodd Group's Managing Director who commented "It is the likes of William that represent the future of our industry. The national skills shortage is well documented but we believe that by encouraging young people like William into the industry we can protect our business. He should be proud of his achievement as the standard of entries this year was particularly high and I look forward to monitoring his future progress."

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mike Robinson, presented the award to Will when he recently visited Solihull Council's Civic Suite. The Mayor said: "It is a delight to present this award to Will. With his fantastic work ethic and the progress he has shown there is no doubt that Will is an incredibly deserving winner. It is great to have been able to celebrate his success with him."

Dodd Group invests heavily each year in training and personal development with 8,332 hours set aside so far in 2016 alone and provides apprenticeships and work placements across all areas of its business. Senior members of the company regularly attend careers seminars with local schools and colleges to encourage students to consider the construction sector for their future careers.
