Work Placement Gives Tom Invaluable Experience

Work Placement Gives Tom Invaluable Experience

With a number of Directors and Managers at Dodd Group having emerged through apprenticeship routes, including Matt Clarke our Southampton Regional Director, the company is a proud advocate of vocational training and our senior management team believes that we have a moral obligation to encouraging young people into the industry through apprenticeships and work placements.

In line with our commitments to the University Of Chichester and our own passion for encouraging talent into the sector we have created a Work Experience Programme to run in conjunction with our current project at Bognor Regis. The programme provides young people with an insight into our interesting yet demanding industry and covers all aspects of our business, both onsite and offsite.

For the first placement on offer for this scheme we shortlisted 5 students from over 20 applications and following a series of interviews Tom Chatfield was chosen.

Alongside selecting Tom, we also provided the four other interviewees with structured honest feedback on their performance in the interview process. This feedback is incredibly important for young people who have had little or no experience in presenting themselves favourably to potential employers and is something which Dodd Group is actively involved with doing with our partner schools and colleges throughout the UK.

Congratulations to Tom for completing his work experience placement with Dodd Group (South) Ltd. The schedule for his week with Dodd Group included 4 days in the office, with one day onsite.

Tom will now go on to complete his course for Electrical Installation at our partner training provider, City College Southampton. We will remain in contact with Tom, along with providing feedback of his work experience placement with us to the college. Part of our commitment to youth development is to not just "leave it at the door" after the event - support and further guidance is key.

Dodd Group is a privately owned family company which has continued to act as a role model within our industry. With 37 apprentices / trainees and an additional 5 adult trainees employed throughout the business we have remained committed to providing training and work experience opportunities across all areas of our work.
