The DiabetesCentre & MIDRU was a new build project located within the grounds of theexisting Heartlands Hospital site. The project was designed by Atkinsconsulting on behalf of the client in order to comply with the expectations andrequirements and in full compliance with the Estates specifications and HTMdocuments.
The project comprised:
- Incomingmechanical services, LTHW services, HCW Services, Steam and Condensate system, Forced Ventilation systems. BMS systems, LV distribution
- Standby Generator system, General and Emergency Lighting, Small Power services, Fire Alarm services, Nurse Call systems. Door Access, Induction Loop, Alarm Management, Patient CallDisplay, Intruder Alarm Systems, Data and TV systems, Lightning Protection.
A key factor to this project was the use of a ground sourceheating system as the primary form of energy to the building, supported by theexisting hospital steam network. This involved bore holing 29no 100m deep boreholes with 2 incoming and 2 return legs to the ground source system. The managementprogramming and delivery of equipment and operatives for this system was acritical path element to the project, as these were installed prior theconstruction of the building due to access issues once construction hadcommenced.
