This scheme involved working on a live site within an occupied student residence, ensuring that the exiting services remained unaffected for the duration of the project.
For the heating of Jarratt Hall, our works included a heat exchanger and bulk thermal storage connected onto the campus district heating scheme.
The scheme required the provision of new LTHW district heating networks, upgrade of LTHW radiator heating and domestic hot water services to two new house blocks.
The works included the provision of a new district heating underground pipe network to the twelve accommodation blocks on the site to service the LTHW heating and hot water demands for the seven hundred student bedrooms.
The University's main site-wide district heating network was used as the primary heat source and a scheduled isolation extension of this network was undertaken to feed the new main plant room.
The mainn plant room comprised two 1MW plate heat exchangers from which a primary packaged shunt pump set was installed to service three 42,000L buffer vessels. These vessels were used as an energy store and the main heat source to soften the peak heating demands on the main University heat network.
A secondary packaged pump set was provided, feeding the local primary district heating network around the Jarratt Hall house blocks. A full BMS controls system was provided, linked to the University's main estates bureau network to give full controls and monitoring of the system to ensure efficient operation of the system during peak demands.
