Dodd Group secured the design and installation of MEP services at Shrewsbury Academy. The project includes the construction of a new 2 storey Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) block, as well as refurbishment works throughout the current campus to allow the school to expand from 850 pupils to 1,200 pupils.

The scheme incorporates the refurbishment of the vacant Sundorne Infant School site, which sits adjacent to the existing secondary school.

The STEM building incorporates a low-carbon natural ventilation solution using hybrid ventilation units coupled with opening windows.  In order to future proof the building, the heating system has been designed to operate at lower temperatures for the future incorporation of Air Source Heat Pumps. The second floor will house the science classrooms and therefore includes gas supply and specialist extraction.

The total MEP refurbishment of the old infant school includes new boilers, ventilation, BMS system, electrical distribution, LED lighting, fire alarm, and access and security all of which are fully interfaced with the main body of the school.

The refurbishment of the sports hall includes more energy efficient heating and lighting.
