Dodd Group is delivering the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a complete package of fire safety M&E services covering 6 wings with 42 ancillary buildings at HMP Lincoln on behalf of Galliford Try. The scheme responds to the latest Crown Premises Inspection Group (CPIG) fire safety report and brings the establishment’s fire protection systems in line with current standards across the entire estate.
Working in a live custodial environment
HMP Lincoln is a Category B men’s prison holding up to 729 prisoners, and it remains fully operational throughout the works. This shapes every aspect of delivery. Our workforce is security vetted and key trained, working under escorted access with strict tool and materials control. Working hours flex around the prison’s daily regime, with activity planned to avoid movement times, lockdowns and operational restrictions. Delivery is phased wing by wing, coordinated with the establishment to maintain full capacity while cells and communal areas are progressively upgraded.
Installing new services in this setting demands more than technical capability. Every excavation, every ceiling void and every cable route is planned in detail with the prison and Galliford Try before work begins, ensuring security is never compromised and disruption to the regime is kept to a minimum.
Site wide infrastructure
The works are underpinned by new site wide infrastructure, including underground ducts and troughs installed to distribute services securely across the establishment. Managing excavation within a secure perimeter, with all the diversions and permissions that entails, is among the most demanding elements of the scheme.
Scope of works
- New in cell detection and fire alarm replacement
- General and emergency lighting replacement
- High pressure misting hose reel suppression systems
- Smoke ventilation replacement and upgrades
- UPS installations
- Fire stopping and compartmentation
- Full replacement of cell call systems

Progress
Now in the first year of a three year program, the project is on track, with delivery continuing across the establishment.
Delivering complex M&E in secure environments demands planning, discipline and a workforce that understands the setting. HMP Lincoln demonstrates Dodd Group’s capability across the justice estate.
