Ysgol Y Graig

Dodd Group was engaged by Kier to install the MEP services at Ysgol Y Graig, a new build two storey primary School with Early Years facility situated in Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil.

Primary LTHW services are generated by a two number gas fired condensing boiler cascade arrangement in a centrally located Plantroom. Secondary ground and first floor variable temperature systems serve an underfloor heating system, radiators and Hybrid ventilation units, the constant temperature system serves a Kitchen AHU and ceiling tile heaters.

Individual room CO² and temperature sensors manage air quality and ventilation requirements by the close control of the Hybrid Ventilation Units. The ventilation of circulation, cloak room and toilet areas is managed by a combination of heat recovery and direct extract systems. A building overheat control strategy is provided by a passive ventilation protocol utilising the building AOV System.

2 number direct gas fired condensing water heaters provide the buildings self-balancing domestic hot water service.

Our responsibilities also included, the Building Management System, energy metering and display, above ground drainage, internal and external gas services, mains water and stored emergency fire water services.

Our work included Electrical Distribution from a Form 4 Type 6 switch Panel to Local area distribution boards. High Efficiency internal and external LED lighting. Small Power, EV Charging and a 30KWp roof mounted PV installation with metered export facility. A Molex CAT 6A voice & data installation, AV and Induction loop systems. An L1 type Fire Alarm. CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Systems. Selected area energy metering and centralised energy consumption display.

We developed the design and installed of a flood lighting scheme for an adjacent public playing field, car park and rugby pitch.

We developed a design and installed an emergency fire water storage and dispense system required by the Local Fire Service due to unreliable mains water pressure in the area.
