Community Support at Flowerbank Court

Flowerbank Court is an Anchor Scheme of 44 1 bedroom apartments for the over 55's located in Sowerby Bridge a market town in the Upper Calder Valley in Calderdale in West Yorkshire. Dodd Group is the Gas Service and Maintenance provider for Anchor.

In 2021 the residents decided to raise money to buy a defibrillator to be fitted at the scheme. Sheila Jackson, a resident of Flowerbank, headed the fund raising and kicked off with a Halloween Party in October 2021. Once the project was up and running they joined up with Liz Jones & Christine Kidd from the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund.

They continued raising money through 2022 until they had raised over £800 and then requested help from local businesses. Peter Lamb from our Stockport team heard about this and arranged for Dodd Group to donate the remaining £700. After many months of waiting the defibrillator was finally installed and unveiled.

The unit has been registered with the local authority and can now be used by not only the residents of Flowerbank but open to the wider community. The residents are going to continue to fund raise as the unit requires testing and replacement parts throughout its life.

Hopefully the unit is never required but if it is it would be lovely to know we may have helped to save a life.

Big thanks to Peter Lamb who unfortunately could not be at the unveiling ceremony as he became a Grandfather while the unveiling was in process.
