Barnfield College
Project name: Barnfield College - Work In Progress
M&E Order Value: £3 million
Contractor: Farrans Construction
Redevelopment of Barnfield College's New Bedford Road campus in Luton.
Construction of a new 6,000sq meter four storey building complete with central atrium and modern teaching facilities for further education. The facility will accommodate skills delivery for mainstream employment sectors and specialist skills in digital and engineering.
The M&E installation consists of a full VRF heating & cooling system with mechanically ventilation and electric localised water heaters. Electrically a 1250A Form 4 type 2 switch panel distributes out to the buildings extensive lighting & power installations.
Dodd Group assisted the client, through challenging the design of the smoke ventilation, to save money and on costs by reducing the scope of the system in line with current regulations to only protect the fire fighting stairs rather than covering the whole of the atrium area. This in turn has reduced the size of the required generator and the number of dual power supplies required.
